CARES Child Care Scholarship Program
Governor Andrew M. Cuomo of the State of New York signed an Executive Order that will facilitate child care for children of essential workers, starting Monday November 1st. This executive order extends the cap on household incomes to qualify for free child care. Essential workers include first responders such as health care providers, pharmaceutical staff, law enforcement, firefighters, food delivery workers, grocery store employees, just to name a few.

Who is eligible?

- You will need to state your household income. Documentation is not required of income. You will be asked to attest that what you state as your income is true and accurate.
- A letter from your employer confirming that you are an essential worker who cannot work from home. We will provide a template or your employer can submit an official letter on the company letterhead. You cannot be approved without this documentation.
Yes. If you are currently enrolled and paying for child care, and are income eligible, you can receive the scholarship for your children in child care.
The payment will be made directly to the child care provider on a weekly basis.
Yes, if you are eligible you can apply for a child care while using the scholarship. Once you are approved for a subsidy, you must notify the Child Care Council of Suffolk immediately. The scholarship will end and the child care will then be paid by the County directly to the child care program. You cannot receive both at the same time.
